On paper the house and property sounded amazing.
I remember sitting with Tom at Applebee’s on a date night almost 10 years ago now and talking about this home we saw in Carver that we were excited to check out.
How we longed to live in the country and have some animals.
The property was beautiful, refreshing, relaxing. The tree farm that was leasing the property only added to the ambiance.
The house? Oh yeah, forgot about the house. Welp, let’s talk about the house for a sec.

Ok, it wasn’t as bad as this lol, but there was some creepy writing in the basement that freaked me out.
Let’s just say if we wanted to live outside, that would have been the better option.
And if I restored houses, this would have been perfect as it was screaming for an update….I don’t right now, but love watching people who do and their amazing talents. :-)
The money to invest in this property started to add up and we didn’t have it nor did it feel like home to us.
Every door seemed to be shut for us to be out in the country back in 2014.
So, we found ourselves in Brooklyn Center with a house that was in great shape and a beautiful, secluded backyard with great neighbors.
Not quite in the country, but close to where I used to work in downtown Minneapolis. It was where we were able to know our neighbors who have since passed away and those that moved away before we did.
We loved it there. It was home.
However, the desire to move to the country and to farm even in a small way never left us — in fact, it only grew stronger starting at the end of 2018.
We knew the Lord was calling us to pray and seek Him on what that looked like. He put the dream in our hearts and He wanted us to follow Him in His timing.
And so we did. We moved to a farm. In late summer 2019, we moved to Tom’s family farm.
This is where God called us to be. In the country in His timing, back home. I dreamed of a yellow house with many rooms. We now live in a yellow house with many rooms.
The farm that used to be a dairy farm where Tom and his family milked cows, grew crops and sold to local creameries like Bongards in Norwood Young America to turn their milk into things like cheese and butter.
We’re so grateful to be able to farm on the land that Tom knows and way more than we hoped or imagined for what we would like to do and would like to do in the future.
Although we had to wait, it wasn’t wasted time. There was much growing up to do and learning from, which doesn’t end.
I’m sure you have your own story too of how you got to where you are and with its own twists and turns.
Or maybe you’re in a waiting period now and wondering when things will change? You never know when suddenly that wait is over, and God says it’s time.
Warmly,
Tessa
